“[Breadbaking is] one of those almost hypnotic businesses, like a dance from some ancient ceremony. It leaves you filled with one of the world’s sweetest smells… there is no chiropractic treatment, no Yoga exercise, no hour of meditation in a music-throbbing chapel, that will leave you emptier of bad thoughts than this homely ceremony of making bread.” ~M.F.K. Fisher, The Art of Eating
Now, doesn’t that make you want to go whip on an apron and bury your hands in a bowl of flour? I certainly hope so… and if it does, why don’t you try out the country loaf recipe I posted a few days ago – it’s the perfect earthy sort of loaf to go with the lovely earthy feeling evoked by that quote. If not, just close your eyes and recollect the smell of bread baking… I bet you feel instantly happier – that smell, even just the memory of it, is pure sensory prozac.
